The IPC history has its beginning from a report published in a newspaper, in 1992. Being informed that 10% of all world population presents some kind of deficiency, the consultant Açucena Calixto Bonanato become interested in creating and developing conditions for these people - nowadays, 14,5% of Brazilian population, according data from IBGE, that means, about 24 millions - would have conditions of reintegrate themselves at business market. By this moment, was being planted the seed of the Instituto Pró-Cidadania para Pessoas Especiais. (Special People Pró-Cidadania Institute ).
In order to make possible this task, of social and volunteer nature, it was necessary an intense and concentrated effort in searching information concerned to the characteristics of this public, which were rare, by this time. After all the researches done, it has been developed all a cycle of actions, speeches and trainings, focused on competences and abilities of the human being, not in its possible limitations. It had became indispensable to disseminate, among companies and their leaders, the idea that the distance that separates handicapped people from people considered normal is, many times, smaller than we can think, and all we can contribute to include these people in the society and in the business market.
Along the period of ten years that follow that event, Projeto Cidadania was developed at the headquarters of the company Suporte Assessoria e Consultoria Empresarial (Suporte Company Advising and Consulting), of which Açucena is partner and manager. By July, 2002, following suggestion of Sergio Marotta, Suporte's commercial manager, and who has always been a harder Project defender, there was the initiative of inviting twelve people -whose principles were similar to the Project, and that were interested in accomplish theirs social role - to join to compose the IPC.
The challenge, so, has being growing, day-by-day. To the programs of accessibility adapting and preparing people for live together with the "different", has been added a goal of finding partners, who would turn possible, effectively, to capacitate this special people, giving them back the rights which the society has deprived them.
These are just the first chapters of a history that is only begging. We open the doors of IPC to the companies, schools and citizens, that are aware of their citizenship and social responsibility, to be possible to them contribute and take part of this history, which doesn't have time to finish, but that has everything to count on a happy end.
